From the Pastor:

Sunday, January 29, 2012 through Friday, February 3, 2012 is Catholic Schools Week. We are proud of our school because of the Catholic faith we are able to instill within our students, the opportunity to grow and share faith at all levels of education and for the opportunity to celebrate Mass with each other on a regular basis. The memories that we hold of teachers, classmates, community support, and family-like atmosphere stay with us throughout the years. That is why whether you are an alumni, parishioner, grandparent or parent of a current student, or a current student yourself, we rejoice in the opportunities a Catholic education offers. It provides a strong foundation of academic excellence, personal growth in character development and moral living, and involvement in a community that cares for others and one another all based in the light of our Catholic faith. These opportunities provide the springboard and sound foundation for our children as they move on toward higher levels of education and broader endeavors.

St. Matthew Catholic School continues today to provide these opportunities, but it isn’t without struggle. We rely on the sacrifices and volunteerism of many people including the students, faculty, staff, parishes and alumni. Providing for the financial resources required too operate a school system these days and commitments of time are two of our greatest sacrifices. These sacrifices are felt at all levels of support from students to staff and from parishioners to alumni. We all pull together to make the sacrifice by committing our resources to a great tradition of Catholic education.

As part of our financial resources each and every student receives financial assistance in the form of a subsidy to a tuition that covers less than the actual cost of education. In addition to student tuition we rely on proceeds from parish subsidies, Archdiocesan Student Assistance Funds, STO’s, Mardi Gras and the generous gifts of others that go above and beyond the asked for assistance. For all of these we are truly grateful. We hope you will see the value of a Catholic education and continue to support our school for years to come. Thank you for that support and may God bless you and your families in all of your endeavors throughout life.
