Welcome

Welcome to the St. Matthew Elementary site.  My name is Amy Conlon and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new principal of St. Matthew Elementary School.  I am honored to have been selected to continue working with the Xavier Catholic School System, which is known for the quality education and faith component provided to its students.  Over the last seven years, I have worked as a teacher and administrator, but the most important role that I play is as a child advocate. I get to spend a lot of time with your children, during this time I look forward to getting to know them and their personalities, learning styles, interests and passions.  If there is one thing you should know about me, I will spend a large portion of every day encouraging your children, letting them know they are valued and the special place they play in my life and our school community. We, as a community, will celebrate their successes, small and large.

While I am truly excited to be a St. Matthew Jaguar and work with your children, I also look forward to partnering with you to accomplish many of the tasks that are for the benefit of your sons/daughters.  We have all heard the old Proverb that states, “it takes a village to raise a child,” so through this year I am excited to see your children through your eyes. I cannot wait to share with you all of the amazing things they will accomplish here at St. Matthew’s, but I will also be here to work with you should your student need help navigating any aspect of the school environment.

My goal is to ensure that St. Matthew Elementary School is an environment where all students are healthy, happy and safe and can learn as much as possible.  This has been my philosophy since I started in the classroom at Massabesic High School in Waterboro, Maine. I taught freshman and sophomore Algebra and Geometry for a year prior to moving back to my home state of Iowa.  Upon my return back to Iowa I was honored to get a teaching opportunity at Regis Middle School, where I have been ever since. I taught sixth grade math for two years, eighth grade math for two years and most recently taught eighth grade religion and served as the Associate Principal.  Some of my responsibilities as Associate Principal included discipline, day-to-day operations, such as schedule building and planning for school events and the lead person for some of our technology tools like PowerSchool Learning and PowerTeacher.

My greatest achievement does not come professionally, but personally, as I am the mother of three beautiful children: Braylen (11), Kellen (7) and Meyer (3) and the wife to Eric.  Your children will be treated much the same as I treat my own children; I will work tirelessly to ensure your sons/daughters have the best possible experience at St. Matthew Elementary.
